HEMP AS SCIENCE DRIVEN POLICY

Hempology 101 ideas to help science drive policy from the USA Hemp Museum, www.hempmuseum.org, Richard M. Davis, founder & curator.

There are volumes of hemp research already done. Ending hemp prohibition provides significant boosts to our environment, economy, health care system and for millions, personal well being.

Below is a slight expansion on the science/truth about how we can use hemp to help us solve our problems.

1. When the problem is a shortage of clean water, the solution is to create more clean water. Hemp can help create clean water.

a. Use locally grown hemp biomass to power coastal water distillers and desalination plants . These technologies powered by hemp can convert ocean water into clean drinking water. For example, Los Angeles, a coastal city, could process Pacific Ocean water into clean drinking water with less strain on the environment than the current process of draining the troubled Colorado River.

b. Use hemp biofuel to transport the clean water.

c. Use hemp plastics and hempcrete to make new pipes (water delivery system) if necessary.

2. When the problem is too much strain on the health care system, the solution is to reduce the strain by reducing the number of patients. Stress kills and key hemp grades (medical & recreational) reduce stress. In addition to growing and using effective 5,000 year old hemp medicine and foods, as described in Richard M. Davis’ museum tour book HEMP FOR VICTORY: THE WONDER HERB, use the newfound abundant water supply to promote hydrotherapy. Jethro Kloss's book, BACK TO EDEN has a chapter on the subject - The Water Cure recipe is on line.

3. When the problem is too many toxins in the environment, the solution is to produce radically fewer toxins, zero tolerance where possible. The Industrial Age was dominated by cotton and polyester. The Information Age demands comfortable, environmentally empowering, healthy hemp fabrics. Replacing cotton/polyester with non toxic hemp reduces the quantity of chemicals we put into our environment and the amount of water needed in processing.

4. When the problem is too much CO2 in the atmosphere, the solution is to remove the excess CO2, which hemp is a biomass champion at doing. To reduce air pollution, shift from petro to flex-fuel conversion engines that run hemp biofuel. Davis has more on hemp and the environment in his book HEMP FOR VICTORY: A GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTION.

5. When the problem is a lack of activity in the automotive industry, the solution is to create more activity in the automotive industry. Auto manufacturers can quickly develop an aftermarket converting their existing customer base from petro to flex fuel engines that burn hemp and other biofuels. Tax credits should apply.

6. When the problem is toxic and damaged soil, the solution is to aerate and clean the soil. When land is burnt, hemp can help heal it. Hemp’s up to 6’ root system aerates soil, cleaning/fortifying the land and empowering our rivers, necessary for peace of mind.

7. When the problem is waste, the solution is conservation. Hemp is a low water use plant that is already being grown on unused federal land. The way we make our paper, clothing and building materials is counterproductive, causing cancers and other health problems. Current methods use a lot of water. Hemp usage saves water in both growing and processing. Hemp is a weed.

8. When the problem is the government is broke, the solution is to tax the nation’s #1 cash crop, hemp. Just a 20% tax on recreational grades of hemp would create a huge tax income. Let’s not forget to add the reduction in costs from our prison (hemp peace pipe) and hospital (medical hemp) populations. Conservative estimates put the net income to the government around a trillion dollars a year in saved prison costs and tax income. That does not factor in the additional income and retail taxes generated by the demand for safe, inexpensive hemp products, jobs and business opportunities.

We must implement the end of hemp prohibition based on wisdom and common sense. We can grow from here and be free.

For more on hemp please visit the USA Hemp Museum, www.hempmuseum.org and learn about many of the ways hemp can help us save ourselves. Check back at the museum from time to time as we're working on Davis' books in his USA Hemp Museum tours, HEMP FOR VICTORY series. The next three in line are almost ready.

Let Science Drive Policy! End hemp prohibition now!!!

California Going Broke - Give Me A Break!!!

It was announced that California is in a budget crisis and going broke. The report is that the state will be out of funds by the spring.

The great and wonderful Tommy Chong said in a/k/a Tommy Chong: A Film By Josh Gilbert 'if the people elect Arnold, then we are truly a nation of retards.' Based on results, as usual Chong was right, unless another stolen election was in the mix.

The Terminator has almost terminated the state's budget while denying hemp, the will of the people as voiced in Prop 215, even though he inhaled.

It is continued insanity to pretend not to know we can solve our economic crisis with hemp.

California will run out of money by the spring UNLESS they immediately remove all restrictions from the hemp plant and generate a tax revenue from the state's #1 cash crop immediately.

Tax industrial and medical grades at standard business rates and recreational hemp at 20%. If any state gets up to 20% on all recreational hemp sold, there would be no budget crisis.

How? Legalization and large scale hemp growing would bring the price down to about $100 an ounce...plus a $20 tax. There are millions of high grade hemp consumers who would gladly pay the tax to remove the drama.

In this year's election hemp won in 9 out of 10 states where it was on the ballot. The will of the government got us into this mess. The Will of the People, hemp, can get us out.

Jack Herer TV

The great Jack Herer, author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes and Chuck Jacobs are talking hemp with the series on Jack Herer TV.

Here's today's entries of his show. Enjoy and support unconditional hemp legalization now to save ourselves, our environment and our economy.

Part One

Part Two

Part Three

People do what they think they can get away with. It is up to We The People, not President Obama, to change this nation.

DEMAND that Obama pull an FDR and end hemp prohibition as a way to heal the world.

He said he would do whatever it takes. Removing restrictions off of the nation's #1 cash crop and earning a fair tax from it is a small but powerful step.

Americans Reject Bush Drug War Doctrine--Landslide At The Ballot Box

Now that we have President Elect Barack Obama, who inhaled frequently because that was the point, and hemp has won in 9 out of 10 states, demand the freedom to use hemp to solve our problems now. Like FDR before him, ending prohibition against the hemp plant should be job one.

We've made the peace pipe illegal and wonder why we have a problem with violence. We've made part of nature illegal and wonder why we have a problem with the environment. We've made effective medicine illegal and wonder why we have a health care crisis. We make it illegal to grow hemp food and wonder why we have a problem with hunger in America. We use our police force to raid farms and their ancillary businesses and wonder why we have a problem with our economy. Ending hemp prohibition would help fix the economy, heal the environment, take a lot of the demand off of the health care system, and solve many other problems we are dealing with.

Consider New Year's Day, 2009. 1 1 9. On the first day of the new year, Emancipation Proclamation Day, 911 in reverse day, enjoy hemp. Hemp clothes, foods, medicines, etc. anything and everything hemp. Get yourself a copy of a/k/a Tommy Chong, A Film By Josh Gilbert, and throw off the stupidity behind government. Stop using the police to raid fields and their crops. Legalizing nature will help restore balance in the face of global warming. Re-instituting hemp is the courageous thing to do.

For a clue about how much public support there is here's an expert report on 2008 election results from NORML.

Americans Reject Bush Drug War Doctrine--Landslide At The Ballot Box Category: News and Politics

Washington, DC: Millions of Americans nationwide cast votes Tuesday in favor of marijuana law reform, approving nine out of ten ballot measures seeking to liberalize penalties on cannabis use and possession.

In Massachusetts, 65 percent of voters approved Question 2, which replaces criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana (punishable by up to six-months in jail and a $500 fine) with a civil fine of no more than $100. More than 1.9 million Massachusetts voters (and all but three cities) backed the measure - a greater total than the number of voters who endorsed President Elect Barack Obama (1.88 million). Question 2 is expected to become law within 30 days - making Massachusetts the thirteenth state to decriminalize the personal use and possession of cannabis. However, opponents of the measure - which include the state's governor, attorney general, and all twelve state district attorneys - note that lawmakers still have the legal option to amend or repeal the new law.

In Michigan, 63 percent of voters approved Proposal 1, which legalizes the physician-supervised use and cultivation of medicinal cannabis by state-authorized patients. More than 3 million voters endorsed the measure, which received approximately 150,000 more votes in Michigan than did Obama. Proposal 1 goes into effect on December 4th, at which time nearly one-quarter of the US population will live in a state that authorizes the legal use of medical cannabis.

Thousands of voters in various municipalities also backed local ballot initiatives supportive of marijuana law reform. In Arkansas, 66 percent of Fayetteville (population: 67,000) voters approved Question 16, which directs law enforcement to make activities related to the investigation and prosecution of adults who possess up to one ounce of marijuana their lowest priority. The measure also requires the city clerk to submit letters to state and federal legislators urging them to "take immediate steps to enact similar ['deprioritization'] laws."

In Hawaii, Big Island (population: 172,000) voters approved a similar initiative (Ballot Question 1), which directs law enforcement to make activities related to the investigation and arrest of adults who possess up to 24 ounces of cannabis and/or 24 plants their lowest priority. The measure, which voters backed by nearly a 3 to 2 margin, also forbids the County Council from accepting government funding to promote federal marijuana eradication efforts on the Big Island.

In Massachusetts, voters in four state House districts (encompassing 15 towns) passed nonbinding public policy questions directing each district's state representative to vote in favor of legislation to legalize the medical use of cannabis. More than 70 percent of voters in each district backed the measures.

Finally, voters in Berkeley, California endorsed Measure JJ, which eliminates local limits on the quantity of medicinal cannabis that may be possessed by patients, and liberalizes municipal zoning guidelines for patient dispensaries.

By contrast, California voters rejected a statewide sentencing reform measure (Proposition 5), which sought expand the diversion of non-violent offenders to drug treatment and would have decreased minor marijuana penalties to a non-criminal infraction. Numerous politicians, including Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democrat US Senator Dianne Feinstein, joined forces with law enforcement and the California Beer and Beverage Distributors to lobby against the measure, which gained just 40 percent of the vote.

"Voters on Election Day demonstrated overwhelmingly that they favor political reform in this country, and that reform includes new directions in marijuana policy," NORML Executive Director Allen St. Pierre said. "These election results emphasize that the voters are well ahead of the politicians when it comes to the decriminalization and legalization of cannabis for adults.

"Let us hope that President Elect Obama and the Democrat majority in Congress recognize that marijuana law reform is a populist issue. Voters should not have to take to the ballot box to enact sensible marijuana law reforms; these reforms should be championed by their elected officials."

The FBI Busts Tommy Chong... for DVD's!

The FBI is after Tommy Chong again, but this time it's for Josh Gilbert's documentary, "a/k/a Tommy Chong A Documentary By Josh Gilbert."

This is one of the greatest movies ever made, a wonderful blend of entertainment, history and wisdom .

The piece is about the arrest and imprisonment of Tommy Chong because his company sold bongs on the internet. Not weed, bongs. Tommy Chong shares the brilliance of his soul with Josh Gilbert in this touching, amusing and inspiring documentary.

We were in awe the entire film as they taught us in even greater detail the truth about America and offered a plan for how to heal it. Anybody can go to jail for any reason at any time. It has nothing to do with if you break the law's of common sense.

If you care about the world, because hemp is not just illegal in America, we urge you to purchase this DVD, a/k/a Tommy Chong, and learn how we can all be free. At least visit any of the great webeo sites and see as much as you can of this powerful film.

For more information on hemp please visit the USA Hemp Museum, a private museum with a virtual wing. The Museum is offering a Mini Hemp Museum, and with a little bit of luck, a/k/a Tommy Chong, will be included soon.

Happy, blessed hemp.

872,721 Marijuana Arrests In 2007 = Government Insanity

The government of the United States of America's hemp policy is insane. The policy is designed to arrest almost a million non-violent people a year, exploding lives for interacting with a plant.

There has got to be a way to stop the government sacrificing the people for its own greedy oil and toxic medicine connections.

Richard M. Davis, the founder and curator of the USA Hemp Museum suggests the following strategy for solving the problems created by our current hemp policy.

Start where hemp is the #1 cash crop and people have a strong survival interest in restoring sanity to government. Using California's SB 420 & Prop. 215, where the people voted hemp legal, sue the CA attorney general for failing to protect the people from the federal government.

Davis recommended that Los Angeles Attorney Bruce Margolin could lead the charge.

Atty. Margolin, a true hemp hero, has been saving souls since the 1960's from the cold hands of unjust law and other evils. For over 30 years he is the Director of the Los Angeles chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) and helped author the California Prop 215 Medical Marijuana Initiative.

From the great organization NORML.ORG is the supporting documentation on the arrest crisis we are in the process of solving:

September 15, 2008 Washington, DC: Police arrested a record 872,721 persons for marijuana violations in 2007, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's annual

Uniform Crime Report, released today.

This is the largest total number of annual arrests for cannabis ever recorded by the FBI.

Cannabis arrests now comprise nearly 47.5 percent of all drug arrests in the United States."

These numbers belie the myth that police do not target and arrest minor cannabis offenders," said NORML Executive Director Allen St. Pierre, who noted that at current rates, a cannabis consumer is arrested every 37 seconds in America.

"This effort is a tremendous waste of criminal justice resources that diverts law enforcement personnel away from focusing on serious and violent crime, including the war on terrorism.

"Of those charged with marijuana violations, approximately 89 percent, 775,138 Americans were charged with possession only. The remaining 97,583 individuals were charged with "sale/manufacture," a category that includes all cultivation offenses, even those where the marijuana was being grown for personal or medical use.

Nearly three in four of those arrested are under age 30.

"Present policies have done little if anything to decrease marijuana's availability or dissuade youth from trying it," St. Pierre said, noting young people in the U.S. now frequently report that they have easier access to pot than alcohol or tobacco.

"Two other major points standout from today’s record marijuana arrests:

Overall, there has been a dramatic 195 percent increase in marijuana arrests in the last 15 years -- yet the public's access to pot remains largely unfettered and the self-reported use of cannabis remains largely unchanged. Second, America’s Midwest is decidedly the hotbed for cannabis arrests with over 60 percent of all cannabis-related arrests. The region of America with the least amount of cannabis arrests is the West with 29 percent. This latter result is arguably a testament to the passage of various state and local decriminalization efforts over the past several years."

"Of further note, this year the Midwest saw a 13.3% increase in cannabis sales/cultivation-related arrests, while the West saw a 14% increase in possession-related cannabis arrests.

"The total number of marijuana arrests in the U.S. for 2007 far exceeded the total number of arrests in the U.S. for all violent crimes combined, including murder, manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

Annual marijuana arrests have nearly tripled since the early 1990s.

"Arresting hundreds of thousands of Americans who smoke marijuana responsibly needlessly destroys the lives of otherwise law abiding citizens," St. Pierre said, adding that nearly 9 million Americans have been arrested on marijuana charges in the past ten years. During this same time, arrests for cocaine and heroin have declined sharply, implying that increased enforcement of marijuana laws is being achieved at the expense of enforcing laws against the possession and trafficking of more dangerous drugs.

In fact, October 10, 2008 will mark the arrest of the 20 millionth cannabis consumer arrested under cannabis prohibition, circa 1937.

St. Pierre concluded: "Enforcing marijuana prohibition costs taxpayers between $10 billion and $12 billion annually and has led to the arrest of nearly 20 million Americans. Nevertheless, nearly 100 million Americans acknowledge having used marijuana during their lives. It makes no sense to continue to treat nearly half of all Americans as criminals for their use of a substance that poses far fewer health risks than alcohol or tobacco. A better and more sensible solution would be to tax and regulate cannabis in a manner similar to alcohol and tobacco."

Hemp As An Antibacterial Agent

Medical grade hemp is an effective healer and now there are 'scientific indications' that hemp is also an excellent antibacterial agent.

From: Observatory section of the New York Times comes this "revelation" that any hempster could have told folks based on results.

"Marijuana Ingredient May Fight Bacteria

By HENRY FOUNTAIN
Published: September 5, 2008

"Researchers in Italy and Britain have found that the main active ingredient in marijuana — tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC — and related compounds show promise as antibacterial agents, particularly against microbial strains that are already resistant to several classes of drugs.
It has been known for decades that Cannabis sativa has antibacterial properties. Experiments in the 1950s tested various marijuana preparations against skin and other infections, but researchers at the time had little understanding of marijuana’s chemical makeup.

The current research, by Giovanni Appendino of the University of the Eastern Piedmont and colleagues and published in The Journal of Natural Products, looked at the antibacterial activity of the five most common cannabinoids. All were effective against several common multiresistant bacterial strains, although, perhaps understandably, the researchers suggested that the nonpsychotropic cannabinoids might prove more promising for eventual use.

The researchers say they do not know how the cannabinoids work or whether they would be effective, as systemic antibiotics would require much more research and trials. But the compounds may prove useful sooner as a topical agent against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, to prevent the microbes from colonizing on the skin."

The Drug Library reports on the subject of hemp as an antibacterial agent:

THE ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECT OF CANNABIS INDICA

Summary (p. 55-56)

Our study of the Mideuropean flora with regard to its contents of substances producing antibacterial effects comprehends 3,000 species from which the Indian hemp --- Cannabis indica --- grown in Czechoslovakia has been selected for elaborate investigation. A preliminary method of isolation accomplished by paper chromatography with the disclosure of an effective zone in the biological way has been described.

The most advantageous methods of extraction were determined, and the bactericide effect of the hemp substances experimentally proved in vitro on Gram-positive microorganisms: Staphylococcus pyogenes autreus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus --- resistant to penicillin, Streptococcus beta haemolyticus, Streptococcus viridans, Pneumococcus Cornyebacterium diphteriae, and Bacillus anthracis.

Gram-negative microorganisms of the typhus-coli group remain resistent, as well as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus vulgaris. An excellent antibacterial effect on Mycobacterium in vitro even in a dilution 1: 150,000 could be ascertained.

A parallel between the bactericide effect of isolated, amorphous, and crystal substances, and a comparison of the sensibility of the two applied bacterial methods, both the modified Oxford method and the tests in a liquid medium was made in detail. The limit of efficacy in the maximal dilution of biologically active substance (1: 100,000) and the velocity of their effect in various dilutions were determined. The influence of inactivating factors has been studied in detail. Blood, plasma, and serum partly inactivate them and reduce their antibacterial effect.

As a conclusion, a comparison of the efficacy of these active substance[s] with penicillin and streptomycin at various pH was worked out, and a summary of hemp preparations manufactured for the purpose of clinical application in stomatology, oto-rhino-laryngology, dermatology and phthisiology has been given."

Received May 1, 2008

Abstract:

Marijuana (Cannabis sativa) has long been known to contain antibacterial cannabinoids, whose potential to address antibiotic resistance has not yet been investigated. All five major cannabinoids (cannabidiol (1b), cannabichromene (2), cannabigerol (3b), Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (4b), and cannabinol (5)) showed potent activity against a variety of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains of current clinical relevance. Activity was remarkably tolerant to the nature of the prenyl moiety, to its relative position compared to the n-pentyl moiety (abnormal cannabinoids), and to carboxylation of the resorcinyl moiety (pre-cannabinoids). Conversely, methylation and acetylation of the phenolic hydroxyls, esterification of the carboxylic group of pre-cannabinoids, and introduction of a second prenyl moiety were all detrimental for antibacterial activity. Taken together, these observations suggest that the prenyl moiety of cannabinoids serves mainly as a modulator of lipid affinity for the olivetol core, a per se poorly active antibacterial pharmacophore, while their high potency definitely suggests a specific, but yet elusive, mechanism of activity.
.....

Given the availability of C. sativa strains producing high concentrations of nonpsychotropic cannabinoids, this plant represents an interesting source of antibacterial agents to address the problem of multidrug resistance in MRSA and other pathogenic bacteria. This issue has enormous clinical implications, since MRSA is spreading throughout the world and, in the United States, currently accounts for more deaths each year than AIDS.24 Although the use of cannabinoids as systemic antibacterial agents awaits rigorous clinical trials and an assessment of the extent of their inactivation by serum,25 their topical application to reduce skin colonization by MRSA seems promising, since MRSA resistant to mupirocin, the standard antibiotic for this indication, are being detected at a threatening rate.26 Furthermore, since the cannabinoid anti-infective chemotype seems remarkably tolerant to modifications in the prenyl moiety, semipurified mixtures of cannabinoids could also be used as cheap and biodegradable antibacterial agents for cosmetics and toiletries, providing an alternative to the substantially much less potent synthetic preservatives, many of which are currently questioned for their suboptimal safety and environmental profile.27 "

VT Governor Douglas to allow hemp bill to become law without signing it

Another Hemp For Victory move has come from the state of Vermont, which legalized the growing of Industrial Hemp.

Though the solutions to global warming and our failing economy are illegal, the state of Vermont has joined the ranks of souls taking a stand to legalize hemp.

Thanks to the people of the State of Vermont for joining other states who are putting the will of the people ahead of the will of the government.

From Boston.com

May 30, 2008

MONTPELIER, Vt.—Gov. Jim Douglas will allow a bill that would remove the state law barring the raising of industrial hemp to become law without his signature.

Douglas spokesman Jason Gibbs says the governor regards the bill as "a do-nothing bill" and insignificant, because federal law will continue to prohibit the cultivation of hemp.

Hemp is of the same species as marijuana, but comes from a different part of the plant and the plants are cultivated differently.

Law enforcement officials had objected to the bill, while backers praised hemp as the source of a food additive, an oil used in beauty products, and fiber used in textiles, building materials and fuel.

The governor can allow a bill to become law by forwarding it to the secretary of state without his signature.

Excess CO2, Hemp & Global Warming

Al Gore is right. We can solve the problem of global warming.

Hemp can remove the excess CO2 we have in the atmosphere that is at cause for a big part of global warming. We still need to address methane, but hemp can have a powerful impact on removing the excess CO2.

This article is an echo from a great page we found on the We Can Solve It site, with a few thoughts added. The USA Hemp Museum has added a group there called HEMP FOR VICTORY to begin an international conversation on how to use hemp to solve the problem of global warming. Please come by and share what you know.

We've made nature illegal and wonder why we have a problem with the environment. The world has lost it's mind and the planet is telling us it's time to restore sanity.

Hemp is a sane choice to quickly solve the problem of global warming.

Simply stated, when the problem is too much CO2 in the atmosphere, the solution is to remove the excess CO2 to safe levels.

Hemp is a biomass champion that breathes in the excess CO2 as it grows and creates products that improve the quality of life.

In this forum there will be a lot of conversation of using hemp to scrub the air of excess CO2 as it grows. A question may arise about why this is important, with hemp being illegal and all. Why should we change the law to save ourselves?

The Problem as defined on another page on the site We Can Solve It:

"The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is now 380 parts-per-million (ppm), 100 ppm higher than at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. But we can look back even further. By drilling into the deepest glacial ice we can measure CO2 deep into time. And this ice library shows more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than at any time in last 650,000 years.

"HEMP TO THE RESCUE - WITH A LOT OF HELP FROM HER FRIENDS

The Solution:

We're talking problem solving at the level of cause and effect.

The way to solve the excess CO2 portion of the global warming problem is to restore CO2 to safe levels with wide spread hemp growth, internationally, to remove the excess from the atmosphere.

Let the United Nations coordinate the wide scale growing. In addition to each nation participating, both the UN and nations can receive reasonable by the standards of the public, tax income from the new markets to sustain themselves. We anticipate the hemp trade boom will be a substantially needed boost to the world's economy.

Independently earned funding for the UN should help build the organization's independence in deciding the highest good for all concerned. Toxic energy should be illegal, unnecessary toxic activities stopped now. Shift to hemp biofuel and other non toxic, clean and/or free energy sources like hydro, wind, magnetic, solar, etc. to empower our world and enhance our environment.

For more information on the subject "What Is Global Warming?" visit WECANSOLVEIT.ORG

Thanks to whoever wrote that article. Here's an except:

"What is global warming?

The science behind global warming is often portrayed as enormously complex, but some of it is quite simple. It begins with a ray of light, shot through space from the staggering inferno of our sun. That sunbeam delivers energy to earth, giving us light and warmth and life. As some of this energy radiates back toward space as heat, a portion is absorbed by a delicate balance of heat-trapping (or "greenhouse") gases in the atmosphere that create an insulating layer. Without the temperature control of this greenhouse effect, the Earth's average surface temperature would be 0°F (-18°C), a temperature so low that the Earth would be frozen and could not sustain human life as we know it. The most abundant of the greenhouse gases is water vapor. In addition, there are other powerful greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, and nitrous oxide.

Each of these is a natural part of the never-ending cycle of life, death, and decomposition on Earth. But since the onset of the Industrial Revolution humans have been pumping out more and more of these and other greenhouse gases. Scientists are clear: human activities are contributing to global warming by adding large amounts of heat-trapping gases to the atmosphere. Our fossil fuel use is the main source of these gases. Every time we drive a car, use electricity from coal-fired power plants, or heat our homes with oil or natural gas, we release carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the air.

The second most important addition of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere is related to deforestation, mainly in the tropics, as well as other land-use changes.

The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is now 380 parts-per-million (ppm), 100 ppm higher than at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. But we can look back even further. By drilling into the deepest glacial ice we can measure CO2 deep into time. And this ice library shows more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than at any time in last 650,000 years.

As a result of the build up of gases, the temperature is beginning to rise. Adults today have already felt the average global temperature rise more than a full degree Fahrenheit (0.8°C) during our lifetimes. We expect another degree F by 2020 due to past emissions. Based on modeling by an international body of experts studying the climate crisis, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the temperature could increase by more than 7°F (4°C) by the end of the century in the absence of meaningful efforts to rein in global warming pollution. What happens when the global temperature rises?

For a global system that is delicately balanced, the rise in temperatures will pose serious threats: Rising sea levels, leading to more coastal erosion, flooding during storms, and permanent inundation Increased drought and increased incidence of wildfires Severe stress on many forests, wetlands, alpine regions, and other natural ecosystems Impacts on human health as mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects and rodents spread diseases over larger geographical regions Disruption of agriculture in some parts of the world due to increased temperature, water stress, and sea-level rise in low-lying areas such as Bangladesh or the Mississippi River delta.

Other projected impacts include increased intensity of hurricanes; the long-term destabilization of the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets, leading to much greater sea level rise; the acidification of the world's oceans; and a vastly increased rate of species extinction. Wonders such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Amazon could collapse under the weight of just a few more degrees. And hundreds of millions of people may be forced from their homelands as the climate shifts, creating increased political and economic instability. "

Fuel prices and the Budget

LETTER SUBMITTED TO THE LOS ANGELES TIMES
MARCH 21, 2008

Letter to the Editor:

RE: Fuel prices and the Budget

Has anyone out there figured out how much fuel, and therefore money, could be saved by a 60 mile per hour speed limit for cars and 55 mile per hour for trucks--enforced? This is like biting the bullet people. We are at war, inflation is upon us. Better mileage cars are on the horizon, but we can act now. Hire 1,000 more Highway Patrol Officers, use camera technology and education to enforce the new law. Make cars more fuel efficient and not faster. Accidents will go down, again less drain on the economy. This is an equal opportunity law, everyone must slow down on the highway.

This next part is for Governor Schartzenegger. Put the people’s initiative law on the ballot so the people of California have a chance to vote on the idea of legalizing hemp and marijuana in California . Here is what we get: Tens of millions of dollars saved in incarceration costs says the Legislative Analyst and the Attorney General in the initiative summary. What these Analysts didn’t tell the people is that the hemp crop is worth billions of dollars to California ’s economy. Hemp makes fuel alcohol we can run in cars and power plants, hemp fiber can replace much cotton and save enough water to expand hemp growing and food production. That’s billions and it might be much more when we factor in the research and development money that will flow to the first state to legalize the entire Cannabis plant.

This part is for the California Legislature. You have passed hemp bill twice, just as happened with medical marijuana, a reluctant governor stands in the way of an entirely new and exciting resource. You can also put the people’s initiative on the ballot for the people to vote into law, and just as the medical marijuana law has been federal government proof (unchallenged in 12 years), the hemp law can go into effect immediately. Give the people the opportunity to bypass a reluctant governor. Let me remind you, our representatives, that we possess the strongest inalienable rights in the world. Our inalienable rights to life, liberty, property, privacy, happiness and safety should override all your fears about what is the right thing to do.

Physicians Desk Reference For Herbal Medicines - Hemp

From a typing of the section of the book Physicians Desk Reference For Herbal Medicines, the section on hemp's healing applications. Animal testing (not that there is any lack of patient and doctor testimony going back 5,000 plus years) revealed to the PDR what local healers have known all their lives. Hemp helps heal.
"Respiratory tract: The inhalation of Marihuana smoke caused bronchial dilation in healthy subjects. Methacholine-induced asthma attacks can be terminated by inhaling marihuana, in this case only psychomimetic cannaboids are active.
Eyes: The ability of cannabis products to reduce intra-ocular pressure was discovered accidentally during trials on the effect of inhaling high doses. During the tests, intra-occular pressure dropped by 45%. Eye drops applied locally had the same effect as standard medication but the effect lasted longer.
Immune system: In vitro and in animal testing, depending on the tissue, the immune system was significantly suppressed after cannaboid administration. Antimicrobial action: CBC CBDA, CBG and d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol displayed antibacterial effects. CBC and d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol are bacteriostatic and bactericidal against streptocci and staphylococci.
Tumor inhibiting effect: The in-vitro inhibiting effect of d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, d-8-tetrahydrocannabinol, and CBN on the growth of transplanted lung tumors has been documented.
Heart, circulation: Cannaboids increase heart frequency, peripheral vasodilatation causes an increase in systolic blood pressure in the prone position and a decrease in the supine position.
Other effects: d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is said to be an appetite stimulant. Long term usage leads to a clear increase in tolerance for most of the pharmacological effects."
Knowledge is power and with hemp, we can save ourselves. For more information, visit us at the USA Hemp Museum, a private museum with a virtual wing, Richard M. Davis founder, curator and author of HEMP FOR VICTORY: A GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTION.
Here's the entire piece with a great literature list at the end.

Cannabis Sativa—Marijuana

Description:

Flower and Fruit: Hemp is dioecious. The female flowers are reduced to the perigone with one bract. The complete inflorescences for a leafy, false spike. The male flowers form panicles rich in pollen. Pollination is by wind. The fruit is a gray-green, glossy achaene, 3.5 to 5 mm long and 2.5 to 4 mm wide. The seeds have little endosperm, are white, oily-fleshy and hooked.

Leaves, Stem and Root: The variety cannabis is an annual or biennial plant, which is usually branched and grows up to 5 m. The plant has erect, rough-haired and compressed bristles. The leaves are long-petioled and 3 to 7 pinnate. The leaflets are lanceolate and serrate.

Habitat: The plant probably originated in the Middle East. Today it is grown worldwide in temperate and tropical regions.

Production: Indian hemp is the dried flowering or fruiting branch tips of Cannabis sativa var. indica. Production depends on the origin. One method is by striping the leaves. Another method is stripping the resin exuded from the flowers and multiple fruit, which is shaped into balls or sheet forms. The final method involves cutting 5 cm to 10 cm long branch tips, which have just borne fruit, removing the leaves, pressing the shooting tips and gathering them into bundles.

Not To Be Confused With: Prior to being used as a narcotic, marijuana was often combined with Nicotiana tabacum, Lavandula officinalis, Nepeta catarina or Origanum vulgare. It is possible to confuse Marijuana with varieties of Urtica, Moraceae, Ulmaceae and Boraginaceae.

Other Names: Cannabis, Pot, Bhang, Grass, Indian Hemp, Weed, Ganja, Kif
ACTIONS AND PHARMACOLOGY—COMPOUNDS

Cannabinoids: chief active agent 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (9-THC 1-THC), in addition to 60 additional cannabinoids

Volatile oil: of a very complex composition, with, among other things beta-caryophyllenes, humules, caryophyllene oxide, alpha-pinenes, beta-pinenes, limonene, myrcene, beta-ocimene

Flavonoids

EFFECTS

Psychotropic action: In most subjects the effect is registered following an oral dose of 20 mg d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or after inhaling a cigarette with 2% d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. The symptoms are mood swings, reduction in drive, inability to think clearly, confusion, lack of concentration, impairment of short term memory and perception of time. Sensory impressions become heightened or experienced differently.

Complex tasks become more difficult, the capacity to understand or empathize is impaired. Negative reactions such as anxiety, panic and psychosis can occur.

It is only possible to describe this effect in animal tests, on the basis of free behavioral and controlled behavioral tests. A stimulating effect has also been observed with lower doses. Not all cannaboids cause the same effect. CBC, CBD and CBG have no psychomimetic effect. Various interactions occur in combination with d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol.

Antiemetic action: has been reported in clinical studies involving cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.

Anticonvulsive action: d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol reduces the clinical and electrographic convulsion intensity in cats.

Analgesic characteristics: d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol displays analgesic characteristics, while at the same time partially increasing sensitivity to pain.
Body temperature: In animal tests d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and other cannaboids reduced body temperature. The maximum reduction was relatively small. A stronger hypothermic effect was observed in higher doses, which affected behavior.

Respiratory tract: The inhalation of Marihuana smoke caused bronchial dilation in healthy subjects. Methacholine-induced asthma attacks can be terminated by inhaling marihuana, in this case only psychomimetic cannaboids are active.

Eyes: The ability of cannabis products to reduce intra--ocular pressure was discovered accidentally during trials on the effect of inhaling high doses.

Long term usage leads to a clear increase in tolerance for most of the pharmacological effects.

Mode of action: Most cannaboids act on the CNS. The multiplicity of effects does not point to just one receptor. Possible interaction with cell-wall lipids or effects on prostoglandin biosynthesis is under discussion at present.

When administered orally, the first psychotropic reactions take effect 30 to 60 minutes later. The effect is at this optimum between 2 to 3 hours later and lasts for a total of 8 hours. When inhaled the effect sets in within a few minutes, reaches its climax or maximum after 30 minutes and lasts for 3 hours.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

Cannabis was first mentioned in the pharmacopoeia of the Chinese Emperor about 3,000 years ago. Cannabis resin was used for beriberi, constipation, female conditions, gout, malaria, rheumatism and absent-mindedness. In early Indian and Chinese medicine, it was used for nervous depressive states, insomnia, vomiting, tetanus and coughs.

In medieval herbals, it was mostly used externally. There are recipes for balms for healing contractures and for cooling poultices for the head and joints and for podagra.

In 1845, the herb tips were mentioned for internal administration for gonorrhea, angina pectoris and choking fits. It was not until the nineteenth century that Indian hemp was described as having a euphoric effect; it was used for insomnia, neuralgia, painful rheumatism, painful gastrointestinal disorders, cholera, tetanus, epilepsy, strychnine poisoning, acute bronchitis, whooping cough, asthma, impending abortion and weak contractions. The extract was used as a sedative and mild soporific.

Current literature on phytotherapeutic drugs cite as indications for Indian hemp: painful disorders of the alimentary canal such as ulcers or cancer; respiratory disorders such as asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis; neuralgia, migraine; urinary tract disorders; mental disorders such as anxiety, neurasthenia or hysteria.

Efficacy has not been proven.

PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS

No health hazards or side effects are known in conjunction with the proper administration of designated therapeutic dosages. The intake of toxic dosages, as is common with the smoking of cannabis, leads almost at once to euphoric states (pronounced gaiety, laughing fits) with exaggerated apprehension of sensual impressions. Alterations in the perception of time and space, as well as acoustical, visual and sensory hallucinations, lasting for 2 to 3 hours are common in higher dosages.

Driving ability can be disturbed for as long as 8 hours. Although only rarely reported, acute poisoning symptoms include nausea, vomiting, tear flow, hacking cough, disturbances of cardiac function and numbness of the limbs. Despite its widespread use as a deliriant, instances of death are very rare. The results of chronic abuse are laryngitis, bronchitis, apathy, psychic decline and disturbances of genital functions.

DOSAGE

Mode of Administration: As it is categorized as an illegal narcotic, neither a folk medicinal nor therapeutic usage is officially permitted. It is used illegally as a narcotic. The production of only certain varieties, those with lower levels of 9-tetrahydrocannabinol for the psychotropic effect. More exact dosages are almost impossible to stipulate due to the varieties of action of the d different cannaboids and because of varying breathing techniques.

Daily Dosage: The former average oral single dose of the drug was 0.1 g.
Narcotic: hash and tobacco are mixed. 1 cigarette contains 0.5 g to 1 g of the drug with at least 5 mg to 10 mg d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol for the psychotropic effect. More exact dosages are almost impossible to stipulate due to the varieties of action of the different cannaboids and because of varying breathing techniques.

Storage: Store with care, protected from light. Studies have shown that d-9-tetrahydrocannabinol has a strong affinity with synthetics and rubber and is easily absorbed by them.

George Carlin - Who Really Controls America

George Carlin - Who Really Controls America

George Carlin tells the absolute truth in this ground breaking video about who really controls America. No wonder hemp is illegal. Greed.

The question is what to do about it.

Consider that it's time for a Hemp Tea Party in The Great 8, 2008 at 4:20 daily. For those who already participate in a 4:20, only a spirit of praise for hemp need be amplified.

If your day job gets in the way, set your own :20 time with the understanding that it's 4:20 somewhere in the world.

Hemp teas, foods, parties, writings, etc. also qualify as material for your 4:20.

Don't forget to wear your hemp clothes, body care and materials (i.e. hemp plastics) to carry the spirit throughout the day. It's truly time to overgrow our corrupt government with hemp, to restore balance to the soil of our society.

Like the original Boston Tea Party that set the course for the freedom of a nation, a Hemp Tea Party re-establishes the freedom of We The People, the American population. Freedom for all folks of good will all over the world can happen too with hemp as the foundation for solving problems of housing, food, transportation (hemp is four times more efficient than corn as biofuel) and medicine issues.

The government has no right to tell us how to interact with a plant. NONE. That subject is between The Lord and man.

In the majority of the states where hemp has been on the ballot hemp's been voted legal. It's as though the Will of the Government is more powerful than the Will of the People. That's backwards.

Let's fix this. Start with legalizing hemp.

One of the ways that the folks in control have kept hemp illegal is through a divide and conquer strategy (industrial, medical, leisure).

Get through one hemp bill in the Great 8 that removes government restriction off the hemp plant. Medical and leisure are industries too so all folks supporting hemp need to unite in the passage of one hemp bill in 2008.

We the People, in an effort to save ourselves, must take our power back. Hemp can help, but only if we use it.

Let's use hemp to save ourselves!

Happy New Year. Have a Great 8 and visit the USA Hemp Museum for more information on hemp and the re-building of the successful World War II program HEMP FOR VICTORY to solve our problems.
