Death Sentences Imposed By Insurance Companies for Medical Cannabis Patients

Artist Statement

"Death Sentences Imposed By Insurance Companies for Medical Cannabis Patients" a first hand account by Cheryl Shuman (Yours Truly)

Reason TV Provided this video clip of my testimony at LA City Council 1/13/2010

Hello Everyone,

This is Cheryl Shuman. I am the new Executive Director of Beverly Hills NORML90210.org. I'm proud to be a charter member of the NWA-NORML Women's Alliance.
One of my biggest frustrations in dealing with outsiders in the movement is that there is an impression that if you're not in a wheelchair or "LOOK SICK" then people discount you as not having a legitimate illness. This is extremely discouraging to me.

I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction on how to get some help for my own personal health issues. As many of you know, I survived a three year battle with Ovarian Cancer. After seven surgeries I was doing "ok". However, when investigating my other health issues, I was diagnosed with Acute Pulmonary Histoplasmosis, Asthma, Mitral Valve Prolapse, hypertension and Liver tumors. On my CT Scan and MRI in June of 2008, I was informed that I have a mass of tumors 11.8 cm covering my entire liver and grown through my fundus and gall bladder.

Another one of my biggest frustrations in finding health care is finding someone that is open minded about cannabis that even understands all of the health issues I deal with on a daily basis.
On a recent visit to my doctor in the new town I've moved to, I collapsed from a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack or "mini-stroke"). This new doctor asked me if I used cannabis. I was honest and told him that I am a LEGAL cannabis patient. Instead of helping me, I felt as if I had the Black Plague or something else. His body language was pushing his chair back standing up and informing me that this "new information would most likely cancel my insurance, meaning I'm screwed on health care moving forward". Does anyone have any insight on this? I would appreciate any guidance.

I just got out of the hospital again this morning and am on bedrest for the next ten days. I'm terrified that my health insurance might be cancelled and am deeply concerned about how to move forward. Any advice or guidance is most appreciated. Thank you all.

Due to health reasons I've had to cancel our events at the Sundance Film Festival. I'm so very sorry. I hope to be well enough soon to see you all soon.

Respectfully,
Cheryl Shuman

A Lot of Hemping Going On

There's a lot going on in our hemp nation and here's just a couple articles of note that show we are hemping coast to coast.

From the Los Angeles Times

"California Supreme Court Strikes Down Marijuana Limits

Jonathan Riley —  Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 1:01 PM

The Wall Street Journal reported on the legalization movement on Friday

"We're beyond a tipping point culturally," said Roger Goodman, a Democrat representing Kirkland, Wash., and other Seattle suburbs in the Washington legislature who co-authored the legalization bill, known as HB 2401. "Now we're at a point where we're figuring out the safest way to end prohibition."

West Coast states—especially California—are particularly in the vanguard of the marijuana-legalization push given the region's more-liberal attitudes toward a variety of issues. Legalization measures in other states, such as Massachusetts and New Hampshire, haven't gotten as far, said Allen St. Pierre, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws."

For more on how we can use hemp to help us save ourselves visit the USA Hemp Museum and check out the books you'll find there too. Keep on Hemping!!!

Montel Williams says Legalize Marijuana Now!

Here at the USA Hemp Museum, we have always loved the great hemp hero Montel Williams.

Once again, he is sooooo right.

Cannapalooza - 3 Day Head Shop Party In Vegas 3/19-21, 2010

Cannapalooza is a big head shop party ($15 per day or $25 for all three days - great admission price) happening in Vegas this spring. Like California, Nevada is also on the list of places where medical was voted legal and has a government registry program in place.

The USA Hemp Museum, a private museum with a virtual wing, is proud to announce it's participation in Cannapalooza, "the international marketplace for all things cannabis."  Cannapalooza will be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada on March 19-21, 2010. There is a discount on rooms that expires February 19, 2010.

This is the first such gathering in Vegas, making it historic and awe inspiring for folks into industrial, medical and recreational cannabis, hemp, marijuana, ganga, weed, maryjane, etc.  At this gathering, the USA Hemp Museum will show choice pieces from the collection, have copies of the books in the HEMP FOR VICTORY series that are available on Amazon.com (A Global Warming Solution, The Wonder Herb and The Trillion Dollar Crop) by museum founder and curator Richard M. Davis, and answer questions on everything hemp.

VegasNews.com is reporting:

"The event will span 50,000 square feet of convention center space and is designed to provide an entertaining forum where everyone from industry insiders and medical marijuana users to those with a casual interest can gather to celebrate the culture. Attendees will be surrounded by every imaginable product including hand blown glassware, industrial hemp goods and more. For three days Cannapalooza will be the largest head shop on the planet."

From the Cannapalooza site:

"Don't miss our educational symposium with great speakers who are all industry insiders. A wide range of topics will be addressed in an informal, fun and entertaining way. Topics include legalization, decriminalization, medicinal benefits, debunking marijuana myths, simple home garden techniques, green agricultural technologies and much more."

To stay up to date you can follow Cannapalooza on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.  We'll keep posting as more information is available.

Hope to hemp you there.  In the meantime, come on by the USA Hemp Museum's site, www.hempmuseum.org and learn the many ways hemp can help us save ourselves now.

Alex Jones on Hemp, Marijuana, and Cannabis

Alex Jones is telling the truth when he says that under current law, even George Washington would be SWAT Teamed.

Please tell the president to end hemp prohibition by executive order. He can do it on a computer with a simple point and click. I'm sure his staff can show him how to stop the nightmare called the war on drugs.

Hemp House

Let's use hemp to solve our problems now.

Come by the USA Hemp Museum, www.hempmuseum.org to learn how to use this salvation key.
