There are volumes of hemp research already done. Ending hemp prohibition provides significant boosts to our environment, economy, health care system and for millions, personal well being.
Below is a slight expansion on the science/truth about how we can use hemp to help us solve our problems.
1. When the problem is a shortage of clean water, the solution is to create more clean water.Hemp can help create clean water.
a.Use locally grown hemp biomass to power coastal water distillers and desalination plants .These technologies powered by hemp can convert ocean water into clean drinking water.For example, Los Angeles, a coastal city, could process Pacific Ocean water into clean drinking water with less strain on the environment than the current process of draining the troubled Colorado River.

When the problem is too much strain on the health care system, the solution is to reduce the strain by reducing the number of patients.Stress kills and key hemp grades (medical & recreational) reduce stress. Dear California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger,
It is a waste of our tax money to enforce cannabis prohibition when we have so much violent crime and a budget deficit.
The U.S. Supreme Court this Monday upheld the California’s 4th District Court of Appeal’s ruling that patients enjoy a federally protected property right to their medical marijuana. The main point I would like to make here is that this federally protected property right also applies to hemp. One strategy here is to report this new ruling has changed your mind about hemp and the Feds, and for the cause of global warming you can now support industrial hemp.
What we find in the aftermath of the 1937 Tax Act, is that agricultural production of Cannabis hemp was the probable big target of the law. Hemp (same species as marijuana, different variety) was poised to become the first billion dollar agricultural crop in 1938. Hemp has multiple uses: clothing, textiles, paper, fiberboard, clean biomass fuels, seed protein and oil, and plastics. Hemp had 25,000 viable industrial applications in 1938. We now estimate 50,000 uses for hemp. Now with agricultural production necessary for medicine, what possible reason do we now have to prohibit farmers from growing hemp which may have a medical response, but can not even get you a little high?
Our NAFTA trading partner Canada is now in its tenth year of growing hemp. California would benefit greatly by being the first state to return hemp growing to the American farmer free of the drug war scare. To ignore the bigger picture is to languish in the mistaken belief that the federal government controls everything a state does through the interstate commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution. Our state has the sixth largest economy in the world. California would benefit greatly by forging ahead with hemp growing and research of industrial potential, which is allowed by Article 28, of the Single Convention Treaty on Narcotic Drugs (U.N.), 1961. This is the very treaty on which our federal Controlled Substances Act is based.
All over the world and the United States, the truth about hemp and marijuana is flooding our information highways. We must correct the industrial/political conspiracies, misinformation, and overall mistakes of the 1930’s and legalize hemp and marijuana. Especially considering that “marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man,” as ruled by DEA law judge Francis Young, in September of 1988.
To be ignorant of the history of Cannabis is to invite bad lawmaking. Cannabis sativa is a plant, not a synthetic compound. Any plan to provide for “safe and affordable distribution...” must take into account that it must be grown as an agricultural crop. Not all people have back yards or extra rooms in which to grow plants, or time to grow with a surprise illness. Given that agricultural production is necessary, history suggests we look deeper into the reasons for the morass of law we find ourselves in now.
The plant Cannabis sativa was illegally controlled by the government, through lies and deception, in passing the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Depicted as a fatal and dangerous drug marijuana in the hearings of this Act, Cannabis medicine had been used in western medicine since the 1840, and was known to have never been responsible for a single death in 1927 medical literature. Court review by the Drug Enforcement Administration in 1988, stated, “Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man.” (DEA Docket #86-22). Medical use in China started more than 5000 years ago.
Finally, we have to look at the legal due process questions of putting people in jail for using such a safe, natural herb for personal recreational purposes, while allowing the proven poisons of alcohol and nicotine to be legal. It is obvious to me from a public health standpoint that we would be better off by replacing both these death dealing drugs with a safer alternative. Competition not prohibition is the American way. Prohibition of alcohol produced a black market, prohibition of marijuana produced a black market, and prohibition of tobacco will also create a black market.
Regulation and freedom will reduce criminal activity, and return a valuable medicine called Cannabis to the California community. And of course even the legal drugs are illegal for children.
The barriers to industrial use of hemp for food, fuel, and fiber damage our environment, our farming industry, and our entire economy. They must be removed at once. I appreciate your taking whatever action is necessary to bring clarity and justice to this enviro-economical, constitutional travesty. I would also appreciate a written reply.
"Fuel. Hemp can also be used for the production of methanol.
According to World War II production rates of hemp per acre, we can produce the equivalent of 10 - 15 barrels of oil from one acre of hemp.
If we use the production rates that are in evidence in countries currently producing hemp, we could produce the equivalents of 20-30 barrels of oil per acre of hemp.
Can we fuel the nation with hemp?
The answer is YES!
According to United States Agricultural statistics, in the United States we have an excess of 950 million acres of farm land.
Of that land we planted in 1987 some 450 million acres.
This leaves some 450 to 500 million acres un-planted.
In order to produce the amount of methanol to fuel all of our transportation needs, we would need to plant some 12-34 million acres of hemp.
This would produce the biomass necessary to fuel our country."
Yes we can use hemp to grow our way out of our energy crisis. Though the piece above was from the early to mid 90's and the size of the nation has grown, we still have enough unused land to grow the hemp needed to both scrub the air of excess CO2 and provide a clean, easily renewable energy source.
Tell the politicians, we don't need no toxic energy. What we need is hemp to solve our energy crisis.
Hemp is nature's way to remove the oil from the land and change it into useful items like energy. Our greed got the best of us and we pulled the oil at a rate faster than natural. The result, global warming.

We need a new test for energy we use. Is it clean? Is is non-toxic, environmentally supportive? Is is economically empowering? Oil, nuclear and coal energies fail those tests. Hemp biofuel, solar, wind, hydro, magnetic and other free and non toxic energy sources pass the test. It's a simple shift to the same energy sources that power the universe.
Hemp is a biomass champion as a renewable energy. Anything toxic oil can do, hemp seed oil can do better. A flex-fuel conversion kit on a vehicle would allow a quick transfer off of toxic energy. The change could be done within a year if the product flow is coordinated. The same companies that are selling us products that are killing us, can enter into the more profitable renewable energy market and make money without the high energy transportation costs.
Hemp pellets can be used to produce electricity. California has many power plants ready to burn hemp, it's just illegal to grow in the United States.
Hemp is four times more efficient than corn as biofuel. Though hemp is also an excellent food source, using hemp as part of a coordinated energy policy for fuel would not impact on the cost of other products.
Hemp can grow up to 4 crops a year and grows indoors and out.
Hemp can help heal the damages of global warming caused by too much CO2 in the air, regardless of the source. Hemp breathes in excess CO2 as it grows and turns that material into a raw resource that can be made into over 50,000 products. We're proposing at least 10% of unused federal land be granted to family farmers financed out of the Department of Agriculture to engage in large scale coordinated government.

The phrase 'renewable biofuels' is finally being spoken by folks in leadership positions with force. Yet, we're not hearing the word hemp. That should change because we need to start planting on a grand scale to save ourselves.
The current strategy of using food for fuel is stupid. Hemp biofuel can be an effective part of a energy strategy and has the high standards of clean, safe, non toxic and in cases where the after market justifies the reduction, free energy sources like solar, magnetic, hydro, wind and algee.

As oil for gas to power everything from motor bikes, to rockets, to making electricity hemp can do anything crude can do, only better. As a food source, hemp can help address the in process and projected food crisis.
We must change from toxic to non toxic building materials. Hemp building materials are key in that change.
All laws must be altered to allow wholesale hemp growing now.
A government coordinated project manager type assistance could use this resource to create abundance and wealth for all people.
Hemp can help rebuild devastated areas quickly from restoring burnt soil with its up to six foot root system, to being able to pour "hempcrete" (hemp cement) housing for people suffering from a loss of their homes due to global warming and other environmental crisis.
So, when the problem is an excess of CO2, the solution is to remove the excess CO2. Hemp does that like a champ.
When the problem is dislocated populations due to environmental crisis, the solution is to provide non toxic housing that can be quickly constructed with strong, durable hemp products.
When the problem is a shortage of food, the solution is to provide an abundance of food, i.e. delicious and nutritious hemp foods that can be grown quickly in many climates, including indoors.

"What is global warming?
The science behind global warming is often portrayed as enormously complex, but some of it is quite simple. It begins with a ray of light, shot through space from the staggering inferno of our sun. That sunbeam delivers energy to earth, giving us light and warmth and life. As some of this energy radiates back toward space as heat, a portion is absorbed by a delicate balance of heat-trapping (or "greenhouse") gases in the atmosphere that create an insulating layer. Without the temperature control of this greenhouse effect, the Earth's average surface temperature would be 0°F (-18°C), a temperature so low that the Earth would be frozen and could not sustain human life as we know it. The most abundant of the greenhouse gases is water vapor. In addition, there are other powerful greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, and nitrous oxide.
Each of these is a natural part of the never-ending cycle of life, death, and decomposition on Earth. But since the onset of the Industrial Revolution humans have been pumping out more and more of these and other greenhouse gases. As a result of the build up of gases, the temperature is beginning to rise. Adults today have already felt the average global temperature rise more than a full degree Fahrenheit (0.8°C) during our lifetimes. We expect another degree F by 2020 due to past emissions. Based on modeling by an international body of experts studying the climate crisis, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the temperature could increase by more than 7°F (4°C) by the end of the century in the absence of meaningful efforts to rein in global warming pollution. What happens when the global temperature rises?
For a global system that is delicately balanced, the rise in temperatures will pose serious threats: Rising sea levels, leading to more coastal erosion, flooding during storms, and permanent inundation Increased drought and increased incidence of wildfires Severe stress on many forests, wetlands, alpine regions, and other natural ecosystems Impacts on human health as mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects and rodents spread diseases over larger geographical regions Disruption of agriculture in some parts of the world due to increased temperature, water stress, and sea-level rise in low-lying areas such as Bangladesh or the Mississippi River delta.
Other projected impacts include increased intensity of hurricanes; the long-term destabilization of the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets, leading to much greater sea level rise; the acidification of the world's oceans; and a vastly increased rate of species extinction. Wonders such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Amazon could collapse under the weight of just a few more degrees. And hundreds of millions of people may be forced from their homelands as the climate shifts, creating increased political and economic instability. "

We have been legislated to death and unless we take our world back, we won't make it.
Toxic energy, burning food for fuel, various degrees of polluting the environment, they are legal. There are even ideas that say the rich should be allowed to continue to pollute for a tax/credit system at a high cost if they choose, and only the poor and middle class need to adjust their pollution levels as they get paid for allowing others to pollute.
Like HORTON HEARS A WHO, it's going to take everyone being stewards of our environment to turn this mess around. True success demands we work as one.
By government order, hemp is illegal. Hemp is a biomass champion that scrubs the air of excess CO2 as it grows, burns clean as biofuel, grows up to 4 crops a year that can be converted into 50,000 plus useful products and services, and has the ability to help restore the economically essential family farm system.
In Davis' book, he recommends we use the successful WWII Hemp For Victory program to grow enough hemp to suck the excess CO2, the cause of global warming regardless of the source, from the atmosphere.
Davis explains the who, what, when, where, ware (many websites listed), why and how about applying hemp to help solve the problem of global warming. Growing hemp on 10-20% of unused federal land would be a good start.
Growing hemp indoors in abandoned buildings could help also, turning unused real estate into income producing property, as demonstrated in the great Showtime television series Weeds when Conrad grows inside in both commercial and residential buildings.

was one more death knell in our battle to save ourselves from the results of legal pollution levels and the impact those decisions are having on our world. We deeply appreciate the efforts of the heroic congress people who at least put the issue on the table again. In case we have not damaged the planet where simple cause and effect cease to work, restoring hemp to nature should do the trick of reducing the excess CO2 at cause for global warming. But first we must turn away from our stupid energy policy that uses food for fuel, rather than hemp biofuel, which burns four times more efficiently than corn and when in pellet or log forms, can be burned at plants that make electricity or buildings to make heat.
Like Willie Nelson has taught since the 1950's, hemp is a peaceful solution to many of our problems.
Hemp (not corn) biofuel is an effective tool that we must start using now to solve the problem of global warming. Hemp is four times more efficient than corn as biofuel. The policy of food for energy is stupid and possibly evil, one of those designed to fail moves to keep toxic energy in power.
Hemp is one of the "cellulosic technologies" that those in power are pretending not to know about as we get more talk of safe nuclear, clean coal and evermore expensive oil (use less - spend more) as solutions to our energy problems. Earlier this week Congress held hearings on corn based ethanol energy.
What an oxymoron. They made it illegal to grow hemp to be used to remove the cause of global warming, excess CO2, or as clean burning energy. Then they spend money trying to understand why using food for fuel is not a good idea.

Congress didn't have to set this up in the first place. Last year's Industrial Hemp Farming Act was lost in committee since 4/20/07. If it had passed, we'd be solving global warming now with large scale hemp growing, like what happened in the old Hemp For Victory program.
Toxic fertilizers are used to grow corn. The Gulf of Mexico has a huge dead zone where the Mississippi dumps in with the toxic run off of the corn fields.
